Adventure in space.

This morning in English we were learning to follow instructions. We played a game of Bob says and made 3D alien shapes. The shapes were cubes, cuboids and square based pyramids! We all needed a bit of help doing the task as we were attempting a new thing.

This afternoon we carried on with our space theme. We painted our rockets that we had drawn last week. We all tried to paint carefully but some of us found it tricky.

Orienteering and scratch fun!

In PE, Collette, a sports teacher came and taught us How to crack codes! We worked in pairs to solve puzzles. We had to go and collect the answers from flags all around the field! It was great fun but we got very muddy!

In computing we were using scratch junior which is a programming app on the iPads. We had to use a space background and we had to launch a rocket! We would like to use scratch again next week.

Tasting afternoon!

In topic this afternoon we did some tasting of salads like chicken, spinach, tomato, sweet corn and salad leaves. We had to write down what it looked like and tasted like, plus whether we like it or not. Next week we will think about this and design our own healthy salads.

Daisy the dino fun!

In computing we were playing Daisy the dino on iPads and we had to use algorithms. First we had to go onto challenge mode and read the instructions. Then we had to move Daisy dino to the star that was in different places each time. After this, we could use free play mode and we could use shrink and grow commands. We all loved using the app!

Number facts and The Passover Meal.

Yesterday in maths we were recapping our number facts to 10 and 20. This helped us to work out number facts to 100 later in the lesson. If I know 6+4=10, then I can work out 60+40=100. Some of us also went on to work out multiples of 5 that make 100, such as 25+75=100. We played an interactive game and a loop card game to speed up our recall.

In the afternoon we learnt about Judaism and The Passover Meal for RE. We found out why this is celebrated and discovered the different parts of the Sedar Meal. Here we are explaining what the different foods represent…

Maths investigations and verbs games

We had a busy morning in Maple Class. We started with a maths investigation which really got us thinking! We had to work out all of the possible combinations of making numbers 3-10, using 3 1 digit numbers from 1-9! We worked in pairs to discuss our ideas and came up with a systematic way of recording our answers! To begin with this was really difficult, but we have learnt that investigations get you to think carefully and look at different possibilities.

Following this, we identified past and present tense verbs. We played a game in 2 big groups. Within the group we worked with a partner to collect 6 space related symbols. To win a symbol we had to roll a special space dice and pick up the corresponding card from the pile. The card asked you to change present tense verbs into past tense. For example jump>jumped or buy>bought. We noticed that many of the past tense verbs ended in ‘ed’, however there were lots that didn’t follow this pattern and we know these are irregular verbs. We loved playing this space game that was linked to our Man on the Moon book!

The inside of fruit!

This week we have continued our Healthy Eating topic! Yesterday we looked closely at the inside of fruit and vegetables and noticed that most of them contain seeds. We used chalk and pastels to draw the insides very carefully. We really enjoyed this arty activity, but we loved tasting them even more!
